Since the brown epoxy clay is in the mail, I'm making another set.

I'm thinking ocean creature this time.  Tentacles!!

search for the perfect Pasta Machine for Polymer Clay

My pasta machine is starting to go.
the handle sometimes does not catch right and just spins around.

so I'm in search for a new one.
There are quite a few.  I've narrowed it down to 3 choice. now the dilemma begins.

Sculpey Clay Conditioning Machine.  they say they revised it from previous model.  #1 thinnest. #9 thickest. I may want to give it a try....

The Ultimate Clay machine  this has optional motor.  that might appeal to some.  I share this with my kid, so I don't think that's a good idea...  don't want flattened fingers.
also this is wider. maybe good if you want to do something large.

Atlas far more people on the internet is raving about this one....  but it's pricey... I do use it a lot now...
I think I just convinced myself.
I will try this model and see!

Walking Pod part 1

I've been waiting for this! 

Christi's walking Pod class at Polymer Clay TV virtual retreat. 

I started mixing earth tones. These are what I already had.  some gold, black browns, antique gold and bits and pieces of blues and pinks that got clumped together.

Condition each block. 

Make a narrow rods and bunch it up, turning it into a log. 

Stretch and fold. Until desired grains are formed. Then Flatten it in pasta machine 

I got this far tonight

この人はすごいのです。

妖精をメインにいろんな顔を作ります。この人の作る人形の表情が全部違うのがまたすごい！　
インタビュー動画をみてあっという間にファンになってしまったのですが、この人のもっている世界観がまた独特で吸い込まれます。
手がけた人形は彼女にとっては生きているんだな。
一人一人にストーリーがある。友達がいて、仕事があって生活してるんです。


私も作りたい！　と切実に思ったので彼女の本をオーダーしちゃいました。

私にはまだこのスキルはないけどコピーすることに関しては自信があります！
お手本さえあれば絶対同じものかそれに近いものが作れるに違いない。　
そう自分を信じて挑戦してみようかな。


７月にラスベガスで彼女にあえるかもしれないんだけどワークショップもやすくないしなぁ　もうちょっと悩む。

定年後の過ごし方

先日、ボランティア活動中に聞いた話。

その場にいた方のお父さんなんだけど、高校の校長先生を長年していて数年前に定年されたそうです。
老後はのんびりする予定だったのだけど半年もしたらやっぱり寂しくなって外に出歩く様に。コーヒーが好きだったから一日に何時間もスタバですごしながらコーヒーのウンチクを披露しつつ店員さんとも仲良くなりました。
いつもの様にお客さんにおすすめコーヒーを説明して店員さんを指図しながらスペシャルブレンドを作らせたりしていたら、ここで働いたらいいのに。ってそのお客さんに言われてひらめきました。

あ、そうか。働けばいいんだ。


それからスタバの店員として週に１５時間程度働きつつ楽しく楽しくすごしているそうです。
もともと校長先生だったから働いている若い子達の扱いも慣れているし、マネージャーの30代の女性にもマネージメントの仕方きかれたら答えるなどみんなに親しまれているんだそうです。

何よりコーヒーに詳しいから地元では有名なバリスタになっちゃったんだって。

いいなぁ　好きを仕事にするってこういう事なんだな。

だけどそれまでの経験も無駄にはならないね。

and this guy was so cute.  mine came out with gigantic face.  but I kinda like that now that I stared at him long enough.
bake him tonight and ready for patina with some acrylic paint to add depth.

続きを作る 多少ほっといても大丈夫

この前の続きです。

始めちゃうと数時間過ぎてしまい、この時夜中の1時。次の日辛いんだな〜

でも楽しいのです。

 

ポリマークレイは焼くまで何度でも手直しできます。　多少硬くなるけどこねるとまた柔軟性が戻ってくる。
そこがいいのです。　やり直しが何度でもできます。

ただホコリもくっつきやすいので途中の作品にはラップを軽くかけてカバーしておきます。

My daughter wanted to make a gift for her teachers birthday. So we worked on it together.

Make a ball of clay. 

Roll it into a tear drop shape.  

Flatten a bit.

Split the top   

And tada!

上達するためには 自分に宿題を出す

才能なんて訓練でどうにでもなると思ってる。
技術はとりあえず何度も何度も何度も繰り返せば身につく。

と言うわけで毎日何かを作る宣言をしよう！　3月から。と思っていたのにいきなりつまづいた。
娘が宿題手伝ってというから一緒に座っていたら夜になっちゃったよ。

でもひらめきました。

宿題だよ！

自分にも宿題を出さなくては。

やっぱり1日に一回は粘土を触ろう。　そして何か出来上がればいいけど途中でもいいから写真を載せよう。
365日粘土をこねるだな。


と言うわけで早速昨日の机の状態。
ミントの缶を包んだところで力尽きました。
これは後々入れ物としても使えるようにするんだ。
オーストラリアの　Porteaって花をあしらう予定。
でもこれを見つめて30分くらい固まったのでスケッチ先にしようと思います。

 

左下のペンダントはクリスティ先生が作ったもの。　すごく気に入ってるんだ。

また何かこれだ！というのを見つけたら買うのだ。

先月からクリスティ先生のサイトがオープンしました。
毎月の会費制で大体４つから５つの作り方を教えてくれます。
その中にはテクニックだけおしえてくれて何を作るかは個人次第ってのもあって盛りだくさんです。

わかりやすい説明と可愛い題材でもう楽しい！

おまけに毎月何かのプレゼントがあるのです。送料は払わなくちゃいけないけど欲しかったら申し込むというシステムなので勝手に送られてくる訳でもない。
